Free Info – Killer Liens And Levies
The secrets are already listed on the topic pages of the site or under the “free advice” tab.
One secret is to understand the difference between a lien and a levy, and how to respond. The IRS places general property liens against real property at the various counties they think you have assets at. Usually in the county you reside in. Levies must be avoided, and if you have one, act as swiftly as you can. I’ve had many clients pull out money from the account listed on the levy. The IRS often gets the levy in the taxpayer’s hands before the financial institution takes action. Sometimes they only have hours to act. That’s a good reason to open all IRS mail promptly, despite the stress it may cause.
Another secret is to know that levies can be removed very quickly, by complying with the collection employee’s requests for filing returns and submitting financial information. If you are denied a release after meeting the request for filing returns and for information, usually an appeal to the manager and/or IRS collection appeals, will yield the release.
