Letter 2050 – IRS Call About Overdue Taxes Or Returns
Letter 2050 is a notice to inform you that you owe taxes to the Internal Revenue Service. This letter is also sent to you to inform you that the tax return that you have filed is incorrect. Before sending this letter, the IRS will usually send you other notices such as CP-504 or CP-523. Even if you have arranged to pay in installments, you may still receive this notice.
In such a situation, you should give the Internal Revenue Service a call and let them know that you have received the letter 2050.
Well, maybe. I wouldn’t call the IRS unless I fully understood my IRS situation. Read my article on calling the IRS, or the information under the “free advice” tab on this site. You can call us at 713-774-4467 and we may be able to find the the best solution to all your IRS tax issues.
On the top right side of the letter, you will be able to see the date of the letter, the employer ID, the primary social security number and the phone number that you can call. Basically, the letter 2050 offers the recipient ten days to respond. The ten days is from the day the letter was issued. On the second page of the letter, you will be able to find out about the type of tax that is involved and you will also find the tax period. In case you have filed the return, but you have not paid the taxes, then the letter 2050 will mention the interest and penalties that have been charged to your account.
In case you feel that the letter 2050 is stating the right information, but you do not have the money that is required to pay the balance that is due, I suggest that you do some research on how to best handle your situation before you make any firm decisions about IRS contact.
If you do not owe the IRS any other tax money, they may allow you to pay back the balance that is due within sixty months. The original assessment should not be more than ,000. It is always better to pay the money off as fast as you can, to reduce penalties and interest. We are available to council you on any IRS matter. Please don’t hesitate to call.
